UNFINISHED PURPOSE Part II

“Resistance is experienced as fear: the degree of fear equates to the strength of Resistance. Therefore, the more fear we feel about a specific enterprise, the more certain we can be that that enterprise is important to us and to the growth of our soul. That’s why we feel so much Resistance.” This quote is from The War of Art by Steven Pressfield. He’s a genius. However, it took him years to lean into his desire to write because the resistance was so strongly fighting against him.

Isn’t it interesting that the things we desire most we must fight for? Our minds, friends, and family will often push against us. Not because of what we are doing but because they are fighting their own resistance at a subconscious level, and they project and take it out on you as opposed to leaning into their fears. That’s enough to sidetrack most of us.

My guess is many of you felt the Resistance when you took your 10 minutes to ask yourself the questions I proposed on the last blog and you heard things like, “this is stupid”, I am good the way I am”, “what does Billy know anyway” and most likely some more powerful and direct blows to your heart and if you are not paying attention those daggers numb you, time goes by and you are a shell of the human you could be.

The world needs you leaning into the best you possible as you freely give your talents and purpose. The framework given to us is not all there is. I would argue the framework is bullshit and you can create your own desired game within the game, but that takes YOU engaging and having the willingness to fight for what is yours.

What is yours?

Your PURPOSE is yours. Purpose is what excites you! It’s what you can’t stop learning, thinking, and talking about. It doesn’t have to be one thing or be the same thing for the rest of your life, but it’s a calling deep within your bones that begs you to find out how deep the rabbit hole goes. It’s not about making or not making money doing this thing or becoming wealthy because of it, instead you do it because every fiber of your being feels electric when you do.

For the last 20 years I have taken my purpose and turned it into my life. It’s not always done well or as intentional as I would like but I have stayed the course. The battle rages and I am becoming a warrior. I often look at my vision and wonder how in the heck this going to manifest because other than some place that seems far away, I only see my next step or two and when I find the courage to take those steps magic happens! The magic is I get to see the next step or two towards that vision. Then the next and the next….

What will it take for you to take your next step?
